RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Stands in for the Commandant GSU in his absence and during any other period that the commandant may direct.
2. Implements all administrative instructions issued from time to time.
3. Chairs the Inspection and Acceptance Committee of the Unit.
4. Chairs the Honours and Awards Committee of the Unit.
5. Maintains discipline in all ranks in the Unit.
6. Chairs the disciplinary appeals board of the Unit.
7. Represents the Unit during Promotional Interviews for National Board III.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Preparing performance contract in readiness for signing with the Deputy Inspector General - Kenya Police Service.
2. Coordinating the implementation of performance contract on a quarterly basis.
3. Coordinating the implementation of performance appraisal system.
4. Reviewing the training curriculum regularly.
5. Coordinating the training courses within the Unit.
6. Strengthening capacity building within the Unit.
7. Enhancing police patrols and reliability by deploying police officers, vehicles and other equipment across the country.
8. Collecting actionable intelligence information.
9. Determining placement of officers according to proficiency.
10. Ensuring that funds allocated to the Unit are utilized in accordance with the laid down government procedures and regulations.
11. Coordinating the supply of DEFCO facilities.
12. Ensuring canteens are well stocked and run smoothly.
13. Ensuring there are enough drugs in the dispensaries.
14. Ensuring adequate supply of food stuff and compo 10 ration to field companies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures Unit personnel management and administration.
2. Ensures that personnel affairs are acted upon promptly
3. Ensuring that the unit establishment and strength is regularly updated.
4. Ensures that personnel due for confirmation receive their confirmation on time.
5. Ensures that there is timely preparation of Unit Weekly Order.
6. Deals with discharge, retirement, resignation of other ranks.
7. Ensures that matters of death of police officers, injuries, sickness to members of inspectorate and other ranks are dealt with promptly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In- charge of all operations within the Unit.
2. Conducting the morning calls of all our stations in the field and within Nairobi and briefing the Commandant, D/ Commandant, GSO and other staff officers on what is happening in the field.
3. Perusing all signals and directing those requiring the Commandant’s attention.
4. Coordinating, Directing, supervising and advising on all operation matters within the unit.
5. Disseminating any vital information from the Commandant to all Companies.
6. Preparing programs for annual inspection of all companies.
7. Arranging the Unit Change over.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinating Unit welfare entities.
2. Coordinating counseling services within the unit.
3. Handling matters appertaining to death, claims and benefits of departed officers.
4. Coordinating gender related activities within the unit.
5. Frequent Visits to hospitalized personnel.
6. Visits to the sick and injured at homes.
7. Ensures that funeral arrangements and practice are done swiftly.
8. Follow up on claims/ benefits of departed officers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures that there is smooth running of the GSU health facilities.
2. Ensures that there is quality health care to officers and their families.
3. Ensures effective management of the health facilities.
4. Supervision of the day to day running of the health facilities within the Unit.
5. Providing health education to officers and their families.
6. Visiting hospitalized personnel in hospitals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Investigating personnel complaints within the Unit and giving appropriate recommendation for action.
2. Ensuring personnel records and data are up to date.
3. Disseminating and implementing the Unit administrative instructions to all GSU Companies.
4. Represents the Commandant in all forums/meetings with other stake holders on matters concerning the Unit.
5. Dealing with disciplinary cases of personnel in the Unit.
6. Preparing reports on all forums/meetings attended concerning the Unit with other stakeholders.
7. Ensures disciplinary procedures are followed and personnel get fair trials of all disciplinary cases.
8. Secretary to the HTC board.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Deals with discipline cases of all companies.
2. Coordinates police law and English literacy examinations.
3. He is the secretary in SO-IP and IP- CI promotion boards.
4. Maintenance of members of inspectorate and other ranks service register from all companies.
5. Signing of leave passes and letters for inspectorate and other ranks.
6. He inspects inspectorate officer’s appraisal reports.
7. Preparing candidates for the promotional boards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Secretary to Section Commanders, platoon sergeant and NCO to senior sergeant promotion boards.
2. Ensures that discipline cases for other ranks are well scrutinized.
3. Ensures injury/sickness reports are forwarded to Service Headquarters without delay.
4. Ensures prompt confirmation in appointment (other ranks) after the probationary period.
5. Leave approval and signing of leave passes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Planning of training programs for GSU Field companies.
2. Assessing operational preparedness in the GSU Field companies.
3. Planning and coordinating refresher courses for field companies.
4. Implementing all Unit Training administrative instructions.
5. Representing the unit in all training programs with other stake holders.
6. Assessment of the training needs of field company personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Keeping, issue and custody of accountable documents.
2. Ensuring Quarter master stores accounting policy is implemented in the entire unit
3. Purchase stores, arms and ammunition for the unit
4. Ensures Unit officers are well kitted.
5. Standardizes stores as per establishment in all companies within the unit
6. Facilitates and ensures maintenance of Unit buildings and houses.
7. Ensures field companies and sub-units conduct internal kit and line inspections and submit reports promptly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Administration of drivers within the Unit.
2. Enforces discipline on drivers.
3. Perusal of vehicles files and records.
4. Determining the allocation of fuel within the unit.
5. Submission of loss reports in respect of vehicle’s work tickets and fuel.
6. Deals with all accidents involving the Unit vehicles.
7. Submission of monthly vehicle returns and nominal roll of drivers to the Chief Transport Officer.
8. Deploy in consultation with the Commandant of all vehicles within the Unit.
9. Balances transfer and placement of drivers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Administration of the Unit Communication sector.
2. Overseeing the repair and maintenance of communication equipment.
3. Deployment of technicians in consultation with the Commandant within the Unit.
4. Supervising new installations.
5. Enforcing discipline within the technicians.
6. Coordinates with the Chief Communication Officer on matters of communication.
7. Ensures that faulty equipment is repaired promptly as reported.
8. Ensures that equipment received within the Unit are well installed.
9. Liaising with the CCO whenever there is need for demanding spare parts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To take on charge all weapons brought to the workshop for repair by various companies.
2. To ensure that all spares held in the arms w/shop stores are properly accounted for in their corresponding ledgers.
3. Responsible for demanding spare parts of various weapons from the Chief Service Armourer Base Arms Workshop.
4. Responsible for preparing inspection reports (forms p. 80A).
5. Responsible for preparing armourer’s condemnation certificates (forms p 81) when arms are classified as either unserviceable (U.S) or as beyond local repair (B.L.R).
6. To ensure that all those weapons that requires range testing are tested in conformity to the required standard.
7. Visit to all General Service Unit sub-units and companies on routine maintenance of firearms held by them.
8. To prepare and submit unit armourer annual reports.
9. Any other duty that may be allocated by the commanding officer Headquarters Sub-unit from time to time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordination in training of Unit Signalers.
2. Planning and coordinating the process of the upgrading of Unit signalers.
3. Deploys signalers to various companies within the unit.
4. Checks on the welfare needs of the signalers.
5. Planning and drawing of training programs for Unit signalers.
6. Maintaining of communication Equipment in field companies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Overall, in charge of the unit planning and research.
2. A member of the unit budgetary committee.
3. Charged with the responsibilities of establishing and coordinating.
4. Implementor of unit manpower survey recommendation.
5. Designing of the unit buildings in conjunction with ministry of public works.
6. Head of the unit computerisation committee.
7. Liason role for officers from other forces visiting the unit.
8. Overseer to the combat intelligence section.
9. Planning and coordinating the unit combat intelligence to the organisation.
10. To monitor outside opinion and convey this intelligence operations.
11. To determine priorities within the scope of the budget and resources in liaison with the administrative secretary.
12. Making and upgrading the unit organisation structure.
13. Member of the unit revitalization and strength committee.
14. Organise computer courses.
15. Chairman unit annual reports committee.
16. Organise training courses for combat intelligence section.
17. Any other duty that may be designed by the director of the General Service Unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures that the speeches for the Unit functions are well written and edited.
2. Ensures timely and effective publishing of the unit publications such as the annual report.
3. Ensures regular lectures on public relations and customer care are offered to officers.
4. Ensures that events within the Unit are well organized.
5. Enhanced relationship between the Unit and the media.
6. Ensure enhanced Unit’s image as a result of proper conduct of the officers through continuous training.
7. Offering relevant lectures to personnel that will help enhance the officers’ public relation skills.
8. Development and publishing of the relevant Unit’s publications.
9. Preparing speeches for the various functions within the Unit.
10. Organizing visits by members of press during training and other Unit events.
11. Organizing for programs that will assist in improving the image of the Unit internally and externally.
12. Organizing for events within the Unit.
13. Coordinating customer care activities within the Unit.
14. Perform any other administrative duties as may be directed by the Commandant from time to time.
